Thanks mdh. Looks like we're the grumps  ;D Not seeing a ton on the cameras but the heats probably not helping movement. Couple little bucks. Havent seen any of the small 8s from last year yet they should be nice ones if they're still around. Got to finish up some firewood then get the stands up

So I managed to get out yesterday morning. About 45 minutes after legal, I see some going by on my left, COYOTE!!  >:( So I start squeaking at it. It start coming my way, so I draw my bow while its walking behind bushes. It gets within 20 yards but just wouldn't stop long enough to release a good shot. About 30 minutes it came back through but out about 40 yards. Then I hear some chickens cackling at the neighbors house. Well that was pretty much my hunt. I figured with all that noise and scent around no deer would be coming through. Didn't manage to get out in the afternoon. But hope to a few nights this week.

Passed on a big doe with 2 fawns this morning and 20 mins later a lone doe passed through but didn't offer many chances to shoot. I've got some go pro footage of them if I can figure out how to upload it I will. I've got the next 2 days off hopefully I can put a leak in one on film, the bonus points will help if its a slickhead.

slow weekend, spent a lot of hours in the tree never had any in bow range. Thought it was going to happen Saturday night, had 3 coming in pretty quick grabbed my bow but the lead doe hung up at 50 yards started blowing and that was the end of that. Put the scent lock through the wash Sunday and I'll be back after them in the morning!

Nothing today. I've had good luck hunting foggy days like today but I think it is just to warm, sat until 8:30 and help my buddy blood trail a doe he hit last night.

I've been hard at it just can't close the deal, had 3 does at 50 yards Friday just a little out of my comfort zone. I thought this morning was a sure thing, 33 degrees and dead calm but I never saw a deer.

Ill be out Saturday morning for the opener her in Michigan. Hope some of the smaller bucks i was seeing last year are still around and make an appearance. Im pretty stoked that the farmer has soy beans in this year. I always see way more deer since they don't  have the cover of the corn and travel the woods a lot more. Good luck to everyone else!

Had a doe an fawn around me for 20 min this morning. The fawns have grown a lot since the last time they were in bow range 3 weeks ago. I would have arrowed the larger doe that was with them but she never gave me a shot that I liked. I'll be out tomorrow morning and night and Saturday night. Good luck guys lets get an arrow in one!

Managed to get back out last night. Had a early spring birth fawn go by at about 20 yards. Passed on it. While sitting there I could hear bleating behind me so I decided to hit the bleat can. Well I got a response. Grunts. I was like great, BUCK!! I hit  the can a few more times. Grunt, grunt, grunt. At first I thought it might have been another hunter, but then it started to move towards me. It was coming in on my right so I had to stand up and turn that way. Have not practiced a lot of standing shots from stands, so it felt a little awkward. But I seen it coming, drew my bow. Thinking buck the whole way I was surprised to see a mature doe, (I think). So I bleated at it to stop it. Placed my pin and released. Missed low and to the right, near the lower edge of the stomach towards the back leg. OH CRAP! What did I do? Flinch? So I sit out the last 30 minutes and get down to check the arrow. Grazed her. Only fat glaze on the arrow, no blood or paunch.  But I was missing a fletch. So after meeting up with a buddy of mine. We figured I may have nocked my arrow upside down!! :-/ What a terrible feeling. But I'm glad she/him will live another day.

Glad you got a pretty clean miss. Scuffed a nice 6 the other night. Those straight down sharp angle shots are brutal. Thought for sure I spinned him. After 4 hours of tracking and 2 spots of blood I believe he's still running. Awesome! Fits this team well

Thank you all! Texted my buddy at 729am and told him that if I was going to see the bucks it would be any minute. Shot this one at 732. I love doing that to him.
That buck was still in a bach group on camera 5 days ago. He was the middle sized one in the group. However, he was a loner on Sunday.
Quartering away shot at 25 yards. The hole you see is the exit wound. First year using NAP Killzone Max broadheads. It is always about placement but those 2-3/8 blades do a job. He ran 15 yards, started walking, went about 100 and fell over. The last 75 yards was super thick. Another successful tracking job by myself and hunting partner. We are both somewhat decent trackers but 10 times better as a team.

Saw quite a few bucks this weekend. Had 3 sparing for 2 hours Saturday night right in front of me. They got right to 30 yards I'd draw back and right back to fighting again they'd go. They chased each other around the field then start working their way back towards me. Three times I came to full draw and every time the one I was aiming for would either pick a fight or get confronted by the other bucks. It was the most awesome hunt I ever had. Absolutely amazing to watch. We don't see bucks spar much up here

Walking into my stand this morning at 7:15,this guy was up ahead of me,I waited till it turned left and put a powerbelt clean through it at an angle,I walked up to where I shot and 20 feet away the buck was still standing but wobbling as it tried to walk,I took off my pack and dug through it looking for my powder and bullets, when I finally reloaded the buck just fell over,I didn't have to shoot it again.

Thanks fellas. Got out tonight. Had a doe come at 140 yards. Give or take .passed on the short. She was real jumpy with the wind tonight. After 5 minutes she took off. Right before dark 3 worked across the field. Took the safety off. Nothing. Caps was still wet from yesterday. Second try same cap, smoke rolled across the field and hung there. Couldn't see anything after that. After a 150 yard track job doe down. Great week

Sorry Team.........didnt get out last week due to work. I was looking forward to the next 4 weekends to put points on the board until my next work weekend. Not gonna quite work out that way. Sicker than a dog for the past week, thought it would be gone in time to hunt tomorrow.
Instead , I will be heading to the doc. Think it might be pneumonia. Wouldnt be able to sit 10 mins without hacking. Will have to get serious the last 2 weeks of bow to fill the freezer with doe meat. Really want to be very selective come gun season.......have at least a couple 140 class bucks and one 170 class buck running around, not to mention multiple 120-130 class bucks. Oh......and not to forget a good eating sized 300# bear..........

To clarify  because I already shot a buck with my bow.    This was taken in northern zone. I wanted to to try to tag out with only using my bow this year.

So on youth day in Maine I set a camera up in an area I've always wanted to hunt. I got this guy and 2 others on the camera.
(http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d83/newell-34/Ice%20Fishing/Deer%20Hunting/WGI_0005_zpsxwjrye6l.jpg) (http://s33.photobucket.com/user/newell-34/media/Ice%20Fishing/Deer%20Hunting/WGI_0005_zpsxwjrye6l.jpg.html)

This spot is on the edge of a river. With about 40 yards of flat bank and then a step hill. So last Sunday I put a chair on the hill and cut some lanes. I finally got to hunt this spot this morning. It is about a 3/4 mile walk in. So I decided to walk it just at legal, hoping to see something on the way. Got to the chair by 6:30. At around 7 I decided to hit the bleat can a few times. About 5 minutes later I hear something off to my right, on the other side of the river? And then I see a rack and head moving about the river. He is walking right down the river. I raised and didn't have a good shot. Let him pass a tree. He is still in the river. Just as he steps past the try I let the Savage 110 30/06 bark. He takes like two lunges and splashes into the water. I quickly run down to him, thinking he might get up and run. Nope dead in the water!! 7 point 147 lbs

Points for Team Grumpy Hunters!

Otto
4 point buck, 20 ga Shotgun
Poor picture, but I can get a better one of the horns if needed.  There is 3 points on the left side, and a spike on the right, with a very small number at the base, not really a point.
