Kinda late to try new loads now. I've never used anything but loose powder and magnum 209's and have never had one. I'm assuming you use pellets and that might be the problem. Maybe new primers would make a difference. Good luck Saturday.

Never had a problem till last year, gun is very clean, but last year after 2 missfires in a row ,one was a 8 point standing 15 yards, but I think the powder was damp,I won this gun in a raffle so I'm willing to let it go,,,cheap...

Hang-fires were much more common before inlines and 209 primers became popular. I found a couple things that helped with them when using my Lyman Great Plains rifle.

1) snap a cap off between shots, before reloading, to clear up any residue.
2) Use hotter primers, I use #11 magnums with a Hot Shot nipple which really improved ignition. Have you tried the CCI magnum caps?

Hangfires and misfires can be two different issues.

Hang fire is the cap goes off, but there is a delay before powder goes off. Flintlocks have a sight hang fire. Could be, cap not hot enough OR powder/pellet issue. If using pellet try just a little fff or ffff  before loading pellets. Just A LITTLE. I believe powder burns faster. That should get your pellets going. Pellets that have sit around for a year make me think twice before hunting with them.

Misfires the cap doesn't go off at all. At this point, throw gun at deer....lol.
The only thing I would check, after you have recovered gun, is that there has to be a spring of some sort that controls the hammer that strikes the firing pin. It is something that a gunsmith may have to look at.

Also, make sure that the cap is seated all the way. I have had miss fires when the cap was not ALL the way onto the nipple. The hammer hits the cap, but the cap does not go off. Re-clocked and it worked fine.  I am sure it could happen with an in-line also.

I am NO expert, so if anyone wants to correct me, please do so....Good Luck this weekend....h2l

We tried pellets for one season. Out of 9 of us we had a lot of hang shots and they did not hold up well at all in damp conditions. We went right back to black powder and don't have any issues at all. The only reason we tried the switch was because it was easier for speed loads.

Our hunting camp shot 4 over the weekend.   I'll be headed home Thursday to hunt the last day of muzzleloader and opening weekend of gun.
