You guys are gonna laugh but 6 members of our club shoot .45-70's. If I had the money I'd buy too but I do like my .308

If I hunt the Adirondacks my .270, where I hunt now  .257 Roberts or .270 but they won't see much work now cuz I'll be using my new 6.5 Creedmoor.

Won't catch me laughing at that, love my 1895G. Got those 350 grainers loaded hot enough there closing in on 4000 ft. Lbs. 45/70 is so anemic on paper and some factory loads because some of the older rifles and older specs were first made for black powder. The caliber is a true sleeper and loaded right can take anything on the planet, literally. Top 5 favorite for me. A true sleeper

Here it is between a couple of my 35 Whelen Pumps, 1895G is stock besides the safety delete kit ( for anyone not in the know it still has the double hammer safety like all  pre 83' Marlins just not the damn crossbolt one. )

Ive loaded aboyt everything for the whelen other then the 310s. It all has to do with what twist the barrel is but with that said 225gr nosler partitions have been flawless. With tht said, ive loaded barnes 200gr TTSX @ 2900 should be even better. It should out penetrate the 225s being a mono. My barrel is twisted 1-16 and didnt really shoot 250s as well as i would like.
