I use 120 lb. black dacron line tied to a hand reel. Run the line through the eye of the largest snap-swivel you can find. Attach the swivel to a large wieght, like a 48-60 oz. fishing wieght. Run the line up to a duck butt decoy and attach to the bottom. That's pretty easy and providing your dog dosen't swim into it, effective!
