Turkey season
« on: Oct 15, 2004, 06:20:30 PM »
Did anyone get out today?
I'm going tomorrow in the wind and rain.
Hopefully my scouting over the last two years pays off.

I was in a legal zone on the 16th, Reuben.
I have a friend with 21 acres over there in two-turkey land.
Here at home I got out this morning for a little while, now I'm sitting in the office.

Anyone else been out?

Less than a month to go.  Have been out scouting already and they are starting to flock up.  Have seen anywhere between 8-15 birds in groups!!!  The toms are starting to strut and chase some of the jakes around.  Mostly been glassing open fields and haven't ventured into the woods yet.  Have some roosting areas already marked, just hope some goober doesn't decide to go and practice calling before the season.  Looks like alot of 2-3 yr old birds though a couple I have seen are alot older than that.

i have seen more turkeys this year than i did last year by this time. i saw about 40 in a field this past weekend and about 15 of them were strutting. i dont think they had a real hard winter this year so the population should be in good shape.

Hopefully we have a "dry" spring and get a good hatch.  I've been seeing turkeys everyday on the way to work.  Started to tune up all the calls and clean the gun.  Went home for lunch today sat on the porch and practiced with the slate.  Oh the music to my ears, can't wait to hear that first gobble before sunrise.
