.243?
« on: Mar 17, 2006, 06:40:39 PM »
i just got a .243 and have no clue about them, im sure i can go to my local outdoor store and get info but i wanted to hear from experienced people from MHF first.

i am going to be using it for deer and varmits. my question is, what is the best bullets and weights for each?

A .243 is what my brother has always used. I do not know a lot about them but I can see what he uses. I know he has killed a lot of deer with it. bear

I used to use a .243 exclusively. I used the 80 gr. full metal jackets when hide hunting and varmiting. I loaded 100 gr. Nosler partitioner bullets for deer. Good caliber.

I have used the .243 for many years.  For deer, I have always used the Federal Premium 100 grain soft nosed bullet.  They are just a lot more accurate in both the Remington Mountain rifle that I ahs and the Thompson Encore rifle I presently have.  Great round, minimal recoil, but broadside shots are your best bet.

I'll agree on the nosler partitions. last year though i tried out the winchester supreme line with a 95 grn ballistic tip.they grouped great in my 243 browning stainless stalker and anchored this beauty on opening a.m. with one shot @ 100 yds. ;D
