First Moose

I harvested my first Moose last Thursday, the 15th. Self Guided, Zone 1, 53”, 16 point, 725 pounds. 275 yard shot and only opportunity I had all week. Saw lots of Moose but only cows presented a shot until about 5:55 pm on Thursday. We hunted hard Monday thru Wednesday and we felt that Thursday was going to be our day. With nasty weather coming in for Friday and Saturday morale was pretty low and I had started to accept the fact that I may go home empty handed.
We saw many moose Thursday morning and missed an opportunity by about 2 minutes. A group in front of us shot and missed at a Moose in the cut we were going to check out. Seemed like everyone was tagging out that morning. Pretty frustrating! Had a pep talk at lunch and said we would not quit even if it took until Saturday.
Took us about 2 hours from shot to bed of the truck. The endless winch and chainsaws proved to be lifesavers. Only had about a 75 yard drag.
Absolutely incredible experience! Mentally and physically exhausting, but worth every bit of it!!
Thank you to my team who worked their butts off to get us a moose. Couldn’t have done it without them!!!

My moose mount will be ready in a few weeks. It is mounted, just drying now. Here are a couple pics while I wait for it to be ready for pick up..

Looks great. Love the sneek look. Makes that massive rack easer to fit on the wall...
