Favorite Bullets
« on: Sep 11, 2004, 12:49:38 PM »
Just wondering what everyones favorite hunting bullets are.  I really like the Nosler Ballistic tip and use it for most of my hunting.  On deer sized game it is simply awesome!  I don't like my deer to move when I squeeze the trigger so I want 100% of the bullets energy to transfer to the animal.  If a bullet does not expand much and exits the body of the deer a lot of energy is wasted that could have been delivered to the animal.  I find with ballistic tips the bullet expands and fragments internally with only a small portion of the bullet exiting resulting in near 100% energy transfer and dropping the deer where it stands on most occasions.

What does everyone else shoot?

For Whitetail with my 7mm-08 Encore Pistol I like the 120 or 140 grain Nosler Balistic tip. Very  consistant bullets with reliable penetration and expansion.

I shoot the 120's out of my 7mm-08 Lone Eagle, 140's out of my 7mmSTW, 150's through the 30-06 and 40's (Combined Technology Ballistic Silvertips) through my .223.  I have found their accuracy as tough to beat as their performance on game.

I agree that the balistic tip bullet is good but dont try to shoot through any brush or sapling's at all. Three year's ago they costed me two big buck. I didn't know what kind of ground I would be hunting so I had my 280 with 140 gr. bullet's and they didn't work at all. I still use them for ground hogs but they will never be in my guns when it really means something.

Just find what your gun likes, test all the different kinds of ammo you can, buy as much of that lot # as you can when you find it, and go with it.
