New rifle build PIC ADDED
« on: Mar 14, 2014, 03:47:00 PM »
Been working on this project over the winter. It's a remington m7 action chambered in 350 rem mag 20" barrel. It's riding in a brown laminate Boyd stock. Timney trigger.. The starting load is 250 gr nosler partition at 2550 fps. It's wearing a luepy vx2 2-7x33. I may tinker some with the 220 gr Speer hot core this spring. I should easily be able to get 2700 from that bullet. And it would be about perfect for white tails and big black bears. A little soft for moose shoulder I think from previous testing. For some reason I can't seem to post any pics from the iPad???

This my my fourth 350 mag lol I love them. Little more snot then my two 35 wheels up to and including 250gr bullets and it does it in a much smaller package and only a 20" barrel! The Whelen needs at least a 22" to do what these 350s can do in a shorter tube. I know the action and barrel shoots to sub moa so it might take some tinkering with the torque of the action screws to really dial her in and find the sweet spot.

GmbH, it a short compact rem model seven bolt action. A pump action/ receiver couldn't accommodate that fat 350 rem mag belted case. I'll keep tryin the pics

It never got extremely popular but not for lack of performance. It was because of the wild looking hard recoiling carbine bolt that rem chambered it in, model 600/660. That was in the early 60's. In the early 2000s she was reintroduced in the 673 rem bolt which I have also and that rifle rekindled my love for that caliber.  It's not for the spleens man though cuz it will certainly rock your jock but it is certain death on anything in North America and most of Africa. I can load it down with 158gr pistol bullets for varmints and cheap plinking or go to the other end of the scale and load 310gr  projectiles for the great bears and African dangerous game. For deer, bear, moose elk or anything in that range I settle on the 225/250s between 2550-2700fps. All that applies to Whelen as well...

Thanks. The pistol grip is a hair thicker then the factory stock. That should help balance and to tame felt recoil also.
