I was wondering how many of you wore gloves while field dressing deer. I never have and neither has anyone in my family. I was watching a hunting show the other day and they used gloves that went up their arms and it sparked my interest. I don't think its a bad idea especially with all the diseases around. :-\

Celebrate the beast!!!!!!!!!! Bare hands for me. ;D

Coyotes are doing what they gotta do to survive ... we shoot deer for sport .... I hate to see anything suffer , but I shoot every single one I see ;)
-
Coyotes are invasive and not native to where we live. I will be sure to trap them around here and ship them to you guys so they don't suffer ::).

I've done both. The long gloves are nice if you don't have a way to wash before you have to drive. I had a gallon of tap water in the back of the truck all season in case I had to wash my hands. I also leave a small bottle of hand sanitizer in the truck. If you have a deer that the guts got blown up in, the long gloves are very nice to have.
-
I usually wipe my hands on whom ever is closest to me when done...... ;D ;D ;D

I can see where they would be nice if you have a gut shot deer.. Not fun to deal with..

Gloves? They are still warm why wear gloves? :P
Crawl right in em like Luke did to stay warm in Empire Strikes Back 8)

I'll man up... I have been using gutting gloves for 8 to 10 years now...I pack 3 pair in my backpack at the start of every season...call me what you want but it is nice to hold the heart in your hand and pull them over it and tie it off as well as the liver...I don't eat the liver so I either give it away or leave it but another handy thing...I believe many things should stay old school but I don't need to celebrate with blood up to my armpits if I don't have too...I'm a big fan of the gloves...they cost 99 cents a pair and don't weigh a thing...Love em'!!
-
I don't use gloves but man have I wished for them on a couple of gut shot ones I have done over the years.
-
I worked in the sewers in N.Y.C.,Boston, Baltimore, Albany, N.Y., Hartford well all over & never wore gloves, I couldn't perform my task w/gloves on, so I'm not afraid of a little blood or gut acid on my beautiful hands! ::)

Save the liver and cut it up to use to catch leeches for fishing or to feed leeches if you keep a tank of them for ice fishing etc. that is what I do with the livers on mine anyway. You can't pay me enough to eat liver after how often I had it as a kid growing up.
-
I just stuff the heart in the pocket of my wool jacket. Haven't lost one yet! HAHAHAHA!
Now that's how Nh men role 8)

This keeps your immune system boosted..... ;D
-
Whatever...it is part of my annual routine...I pack the shoulder length gloves and the latex gloves and a small ziptie in a small ziplock baggie, they go in the same pocket of my pack everytime...If I use them all it is a really good year, if I run out and have to get bloody it is a great year...this year was a really good year... :P
-
I had a pretty good year as well .... I am a bare handed guy myself gotta have a little blood on my hands ;D ;D
-
I always were field dressing gloves, Still get a little blood on my hands but thats easier to wipe off.
-
I can gut a deer and only get one hand a little bloody.... A few paper towels in my pack and I'm fine..... ;D ;D
-

The doe I shot with the 10ga slug was in the front shoulder and out the hind quarter. The guts were blown up so bad I couldn't pull out more than a handful at a time. The long gloves were very nice to have that day. Only deer I ever had to rinse out. The only other gut shots I've had were were from them jumping on an arrow after the shot, those aren't bad since it's just a small puncture hole.
-
No gloves. When my nephew is with me, I get him to try my "new knife"...lol....hunts2long

-

Eye is all puffed up now from cutting up a doe earlier today >:(
-
People laugh when I tell them I am allergic to deer. If I touch my face its all over!

I wear the same gloves when I clean fish and when I cut up my deer...not the shoulder length just the latex...
-
I wear Nitrile gloves all week at work, so I'm just as comfortable working with them on as not. When I'm doing super clean work I can get up to having 3-4 layers of them on my hands. As I risk contamination I add another layer, after 3-4 my fingers do get stiff.

I think those are the same as I use...I get them in a box of 50 at the drug store...Large are purplish/blue
-
They probably are, they aren't as slippery as the latex. Ours are white, but they are cleanroom grade.
-
ok call me a girl........I wear the kind that cover my from finger to head.........hate getting my hair in it......lol but yep gloved up but good.......
-
I had to wear gloves to gut my deer this year since I had sliced two of my fingers in a Thanksgiving turkey carving accident and had 7 stitches in each finger. Normally I don't wear gloves but I don't think its a good idea to be exposing deer guts to open cuts. Actually I'm thinking of looking into some cut proof gloves since I seem to have difficulty handling sharp objects safely as this is not the first time I have hacked myself up with a sharp knife. I came close to severing one of the tendons on the index finger of my right hand with a fillet knife about 15 years ago. Some people are just physically uncoordinated I guess.
-
I like it better when we use our hands

I didn't think deer jackers gutted deer. Just took the head and backstraps...lol....hunts2long

I wear shoulder length gloves. Stuff makes me break out in hives. Not sure if its the blood or the skin but never fails if I do it with no gloves hives all over my arms and itching and sneezing like crazy. While skinning my Buck this yr I happened to itch my neck with the gloves and sure as sh!t hives all over my neck within minutes. Not a fun time. Not to mention all my friends calling me a Pansy for using gloves while gutting ::)

You caught it, dang it! LOL...seriously though, since I became more serious about bowhunting is when I started using them...I don't want all my gear stunk up with blood and guts, I can't wash my backpack and I even though I wash all my stuff a few times a year I try to minimize the all that stuff getting on them, I could care a less what I smell like come gun season but all my archery stuff is as good as I can keep it...plus I thought using gloves was stupid too until my Grandfather, my Dad and my Uncle all started using them...I guess old dogs do learn new tricks...I love them...and actually everone I hunt with use them as well...

I do agree with that, I don't carry a bag though and all my gear is washed right when I get home. Bow is also wiped down with scent away wipes 8)

Right and they drastically minimize that...when I was just a gun hunter way back in the day, I hunted up North with a rifle and there was always a stream or a swamp or snow...I have gutted plenty without but like I said I put 3 in my pack at the start of every season...when they are gone they are gone...just part of my pregame warm up

Why do you say that about the gun laws?...I can drive around with a gunrack in my back window and I have a concealed weapons permit no problem, where do you get that? Now we have the highest unemploytment, most overweight, highest smoking rate and highest admitted alcoholics but other than that it is nice for hunting and fishing...LOL ;D
-
Plus back on the gloves, I like to put a dip in when I shoot a deer and I like the nice clean fingers to take it out when I'm done, blood, stomach and talo doesn't taste too great... ;D

When things aren't going good for your season you have to sometimes scale back and do something different, change camo patterns, different boots, go back to old school days...I am superstitous so I have all these little things that I do and have to have and do to keep the luck aspect on my side...kinda like you and your old lucky hat Abe...I think most hunters have similar routines and querks that the do and bring because it works for them...? When luck is on my side I don't change a thing...
-
Holy Crap!!!! Just try the gloves already!!! :o They are awesome! Yes I use them too. So much nicer not having to get blood all over everything. And of course... AA had a blurry camera in 07 too :'(. Cheeks out!!! 8)

Add me to the growing list of glove users!! Much like Hunt, I even process the deer with the gloves...clean fish with them too. For my line of work, I am required by my boss to appear professional...which does NOT include dried blood, fat, and odor when meeting with clients!!! I still enjoy my outdoor hobbies, I just don't get so dirty anymore.

No gloves today for my road kill doe. Wash hands with snow and wipe with paper towels.
poor towel....what a waste.........!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I was just wearing gloves... I had to clean a deer skull someone dropped off yesterday... It was shot during bow and has been hanging on his garage ever since.... :o It was right full of maggots.... As I was pulling the skin off (which is hard as a rock) with a pair of vice grips, it tore.. A big chunk of something black, slimy and full of dead maggots landed between my nose and cheek..... Sorry, I just had to bring this bad boy back to life. I laughed my ass off when I read some of the comments here. Guys, these situations can be easily prevented by wearing protective gear, more of it. I started wearing my gloves the Coyote M-Pact more often than usual, before I had really crappy pair of gloves, did my research and some reading on my favourite websites as http://huntingfishingplus.com/best-shooting-gloves/ (http://huntingfishingplus.com/best-shooting-gloves/) that helped me to pick and I have never looked back.
I bought my pair for regular wear two years ago and I am still pretty satisfied with them. Usually, a finding a pair of leather gloves that fit is a struggle, because they will be too long for my index finger but these fit nicely, it’s like they are custom made. They also have a quite cosy, nice and secure feel due to the velcro strap. The synthetic fabric on the fingers and palms is very scratch-resistant yet thin enough to not feel numb when it’s cold. There are also knuckle vents and air holes all over. All in all, they’re very comfortable to wear, also relaxed enough to allow the ease of movement. I have been wearing them for about two years on and off – but I still want to get another pair for other uses such as driving and stuff. I took them on my hunting trip last month and they were incredible too. So it only depends on your desire to find the right equipment even for difficult circumstances.

That is all right we still old school here
