Well, I've been hunting elk above Lander just about every day since I filled my deer tag. On the 5th I missed a 6 point bull at 150 yards. Still don't know how, but elk have always been my curse. It's getting close to time to go back to work. The night of the 13th I got into some elk and shot a spike. Would be good eating for the winter, and it was a pretty easy pack. I shot it right before dark, so I just gutted it and left it til morning. Hung my jacket over it for some human scent and everything. Went back up with a friend to drag it out, and i have about a half an elk left. A handful left from one ham, the loins, and both shoulders (one of which is shot up) is all thats left.

That's a bummer. I have had to leave animals on the mountain several times. It makes for a sleepless night and a nerve racking approach to the carcass the next am. Go back, with a bear tag!

had a bear get two quarters out of the back of my truck five or six years ago. Even more heart breaking to lose it after packing it out. Sucky deal dude.
