I head up into the Big Horns in the morning for a moose hunt
. The season doesn't open until the 1st. But I will do some scouting and relax
. The heat down here is still too rough on this old man

I spent 11 days in the Big Horns scouting and hunting moose. I have seen very few of the big deer. I saw 3 a few days before the season. The snow started on Thursday. We saw one little bull that morning. Friday we saw an even smaller bull and a cow.I decided to take a few off and come back home. I will probably head back up Monday.
We did see a lot of deer and elk up there. And the snowshoe hares seem to be in good shape. We also saw some grouse but not a lot. And I was surprised to come across a flock of Merriam turkey much farther north than I had ever seen them in the Big Horns.
I took this picture of Bullwinkle stepping over the fence yesterday.

Marv
I am hunting area 1 with a type 1 tag. I saw moose all over until September. I will just keep after them. I have shot moose before but nothing very big. I would like to get a good one this time. It will probably be my last moose hunt. Have you done any hunting over those goose decoys yet?

No moose again this trip.
New snow this morning and some fresh tracks.
But I did get some excitement.
I came across man running lions with hounds. I got to see them tree a lion. My camera batteries were dead so I had to take pictures with my cell phone. I will see if I can make them worth looking at and post them.
I think this was the first Mt Lion I had ever seen in the wild. I know I had never seen hounds tree one before. Really quite a fascinating time.

Finally. After 20 days in the Big Horns I shot a bull moose. I will post pictures in a day or two.
