Mule Deer
« on: Oct 24, 2010, 04:58:50 PM »
We the good lord got even with me for the easy hunts from earlier in the year. The second to the last evening of the season I was out looking for deer. The land owner had told me about seeing some deer bedded in the sage south of his house. Earlier that morning on my way to work I had seen a real nice 3 x3 so he was the deer I was looking for. I found the 3 x 3 and was checking to see just how big he was when a bigger deer stepped out. His body and antler were much better. I had never seen the deer before and kept going back and forth to shoot. I just though he was to good to pass up with two days left. I made a less that stellar shot and it took a bit of follow up and as all good mule deer do he went in the deepest draw on the property about 300 yard to a trail were I could drive to. I got to the deer just as it was getting dark and had to do a quick cleaning job and drag for a while! One of the heaviest mule deer I've ever taken. The antlers are 27 1/2" wide 4 x 4 with a small eye guard on one side.

Thats a nice muley! Those tough drags are worther every step though, those are the hunts that you remeber! My first bow kill was a doe that took me 3 hours to drag out. Its was past 9:30pm when I finally got to my truck. One of the heaviest deer drags I have ever had but well worth all the effort!
