Title: What have you been up to?
Post by: benny8 on May 14, 2020, 03:27:21 AM
Anyone else doing any preparations for the deer season? The wife and I went out the other afternoon after work and removed a buddy ladder stand from a pc of property we have hunted for 10 years now. It was my brothers brother in laws land. The last couple years he has opened the property up to others to ride 4 wheelers around on. I know that the deer get accustomed to such activity, but we have seen a change in activity since on our trail cams. Not to mention that the whips and briars have grown out of control. Now this is great for the deer, but not so much for getting an arrow or bullet thru. Not to mention its a bit out of the way as we have headed in the opposite direction for most of our hunting. The pc is small and surrounded by posters and now someone else has started hunting the property just above our stand, so it was time to move on. Anywho, we are about 250 yards out a meandering and uphill logging road. The wife and I have got this taking down and erecting the buddy stands thing down to a science. I climb the ladder, remove the safety harness straps and bow/gun holder, unbuckle the two ratchets, climb down and she unties the stabilizer straps while I undo the stabilizer bar. Lift the whole stand up tree to free the legs of ladder sunk into ground. She gets under stand with feet wedged against legs of ladder and holding the stabilizer straps like the reins of a horse. I lower the stand by bracing the rungs, working my way towards the top as it lowers tot he ground. Once on the ground, I flip up safety bar to the back bar of stand and cinch it there with the stabilizer straps to keep from getting them tangled. I rest the back bar/stabilizer bar across my shoulders and hold the uprights that support the safety bars and she picks up the legs of ladder like a wheelbarrow and "steers" me out of the woods. 30 mins from the time we left the truck until we got back in it to leave. Yesterday we scouted out a spot for it closer to home which makes it nice for early bow season hunts. Up to Shamp this weekend to check our stands and hang some trail cameras. What have you been up to?

Absolutely! I never stop prepping when it comes to Deer, I can truly say I pour my everything into Whitetails all year.

I have already moved two stands and done a tone of scouting. I have 5 cams  out at the moment. The bucks have made good gains in there racks in the last month.

Headed out Saturday to see if I can find some Flounder for Dinner though.

I have been scouting for deer since the season closed here. I have a few new spots picked out. I have a few cams out too. I do need to move a couple of stands.

I have also been prepping for an elk hunt in Colorado with 2-4 weighted pack hikes a week.

For the most part everything for us is Whitetail 24/7/365. Love it! Good luck with the flounder!

Sweet, an Elk Hunt is definitely on the bucket list for the wife and I.

But am missing softball season and all the tournaments running out of projects around the house to do ;D. best of luck out there people.... still 2 more weeks to put a bird in the freezer.
