Finally got a deer!

Thought I'd knock the dust off the Virginia thread, went to Chicahomony WMA this morning, got to the parking lot only to see a truck parked with two hunters in it.  Grabbed my gear and headed for my honey hole, first one in the woods.  It set up and had a good 30 min wait for leagal shooting time, but it was worth it as there was a nice moon out.  Right at leagal time I hear what sounds like a dear coming from right to left behind me, walking in the same trail I used.  I turned to the right slowly and got a visual on it, couldn't quite tell buck or doe, finally I saw antlers and as he went behind a free I turned to my left ad proned out, got him in my sights and squeezed the trigger.  I am the full I put a drop of glo in the dark sight paint on the front and rear sights or I wouldn't have been able to make the shot.  The deer dropped where he stood.  Walked 30 yards to him, nice 4 pointer.  Got him field dressed and back to the parking lot by 7:30.  Great quick hunt.  I did find the bullet between his left shoulder and the hide.  I figured it would have been a pass through at that range.  I was using a 370 GN maxi ball (conical unlubed bullet) which I cast from soft lead, pushing with 90 grains of American Pioneer powder.  It mushroomed about 1/3 of the way down, did the trick.  When I got back to the parking lot there were a total of four trucks parked, and at one of my other usual spots there were also 4 trucks parked, I like hunting during the week better.

Green Mountian Hunter:
Congrads to you ; That is the best way to get the dust off  :) :)

duckey:
Thanks.  My last deer was back in 2004 in Maine.  Due to work I had three years that I didn't hunt, until moving to VA.  I had several times in this WMA that I had sneaky bucks come up behind me but could never get the gun up on em without them taking off.  The woods are very thick.  Its also bucks only in this are, and I have let a lot of does pass.  Feel good to get the skunk out.

PHOTO! PHOTO! PHOTO!
Good job, Bud; congrats to you!  Now your wife says you have all the time in the world to rake the yard and watch dancing with stars with her, right?  ;D

duckey:
Thanks, not quite.  But she did say, "so your done for the season? Right?  Cause you got a deer! ". Nope I said, I have two more tags left!  We can't fit em in the freezer she says, no worries...hunters for the hungry will take them!  :( was her reply.  Well if you want a photo I'll text it to you as I may not be as I have never posted on this sight, if you don't mind?
