I just got my first 06 and it shoots 165 grain Remington Core Locks pretty well.  Hopefully I break it in right with a deer this year.

I shoot core-lokt 180 grain, but i'm going down to 150 grain. The 180's are overkill for deer,a lot of unnecessary damage on quartering shots.

I think 150 grain bullets are more than adequate for deer with a '06.  180 grain is overkill and kicks harder.

I have found that the 165 grain shoots great and is perfect bullet weight for whitetails...

Good point, right on target.150 is definitely more than capable.I have also used 165 and 180 with fine success. No reason to go with the heavier recoil unless the specific situation calls for it.It all comes down to the same thing-if you make sure you only take a killing shot and aim for the vital area, that deer will be on your table.

i agree with most of you in that i used rem. core-lokt 165's for the only deer that i shot with a rifle (check my journal for pics) he never took another step, so they work great as far as i'm concerned

150 gr. ballistic tips for deer. They shoot flatter, faster, and give the full effect of big caliber bullet smack.

I just started shooting my new Ruger M77MKII 30-06. I know it's not the most accurate rifle ever made, but my longest shot around here is 200-300 yds max so It should perform fine for what I need right?. My uncle just started getting back into reloading, and I just started. We found the tightest group with a 165gr boattail was about maximum charge at 52.5 grains of 4064. My problem is that I get 2/3 rounds nice but one is 1.5-2" out at 100yds. Any opinions? I know I don't flinch, but I'm also not an accomplished marksmen, all my deer have been talking with a bow so far. What should I try next, other than shooting more often?

from a butchers stand point, the smallerthe lead the better, within reason.150s seems like a good choice for whitetails.

I shoot Remington 150 core lokts, plenty of power, reach, easily manageable recoil. So far I've shot two deer with these bullets and dropped them both.

Don't know if you guys gottem in your area but Duhnams (sports store) has them on sale for $11.00 a box!!!!
