Title: scent dusting
Post by: ramrod on Oct 18, 2012, 02:26:29 PM
so... has anyone ever intentionally walked on the upwind side of a known bedding area( in an attempt to alert deer to your presence to get them to exit the bedding area on a down wind direction),  and then circled way around to the down wind side to sit watch until dark?   this is the last time i will sit this property this season because once rifle opens it gets crowded. but right now it is a 30 acre piece of woods surrounded by standing corn on 3 sides and road on side 4.

im out of ideas with all the standing corn they seem to just be going in and out without pattern.

You could try hanging a dirty T-shirt on the upwind side, then sit downwind. ;)

Depends what you are looking to shoot, or what you would be happy with I should say. I would bet money if there is a true mature giant in there he knows scent or not you aint gonna find him in there and that he is safe until it gets cut he won't even get up until you step on him because he knows we wouldn't see him until then anyway. I think your idea is great but only for young deer..............

All I have left is an antlerless tag so yea im just looking for a nice 1.5 yo doe.
I opted out of this idea as on the way home I saw that they cut about 5 acres of corn today. So now im on the downwind side watching  the open hardwoods between the thicket and cut corn.
And yes mdh same theory as crop dusting.  8)
