just curious to see what every ones favorite rifle is for deer hunting

I use either a 30-06 or 35 rem right now. I would love to get a 22-250 though. One of my buddys has one and they are amazing. He dropped a 200 lb 9 pointer in his tracks with it. The accuracy at long ranges is incredible. I've seen him successfully take 250-300 yard head shots at the strawberry farm when we go nuisance hunting. Plus its a perfect varmint rifle.

Usually when I rifle hunt it's on a farm. I bought a 30-06 because it's one of the most versatile calibers.

I should have added that my 30-06 is an M77 MKII, with a Burris FullField II 4.5-14x42mm. I glass bedded and floated the barrel myself, it's a sub 1" gun at 100yds with hot hand loaded 165gr SPBT's. No one else will shoot it because it has a bit of a kick ;) If the weather is good I'll have it out this weekend for coyotes.

I have 2 deer rifles both of which were passed down to me.  I have a Reminton 721 .30-06 that I inherited from my father.  The gun was made in 1949 and my father bought it when he got out of the navy.  I recently put a new laminated stock on it and also a conversion kit for a 4 shot clip.  I glass bedded the action and just finished fine tuning the sighting in process.  It really shoots well and the recoil is negligible with the new stock.  It kicked like a mule with the original factory stock.   I also have a nice Savage bolt action .30-30 carbine that is a joy to carry and works well where I hunt since the woods are so thick it is not likely you would ever get a shot over 100 yds.  My uncle gave me that gun.  Both of these guns shoot well and have sentimental value.

'Ol Betsy'  my 45 year old ML, Thompson Center Hawkins Renegade Carbine in .54cal. for Oak groves and shotgun only towns. And yes, I sleep with her.  ;D
Some say she's ugly, but I prefer to use the term 'broken in'!  :P  She's been very good to me!

Rem. 700 in 7mm Mag. 3x9 Redfield widefield for large cutdowns and cornfields(hardly use).

I'm torn with that question. I killed my first buck with a Winchester model'94 in 38-55. Then was given my Dads Remington 141 gamemaster pump in .35.
Killed a lot of bucks and filled some DMP's with that gun. Tried to put a scope on it at one time. Went back to the peep sight.
Now have a Remington 700 in .270. Love the gun, not sure the hopped up 130gr shells I was loaded for a present are that good for deer.
They do go down, just not like I'm used to with the .35. Both bucks I've shot with it have taken more than one shot. The ole .35 just thumps them.
Only remember one deer that took two shots from it.  So until I find the perfect load for my .270 I guess the .35 is my favorite.

i shoot a rem mod. 700 stainless syntetic in 7mm mag. killed 7 deer and a 52 1/2in. bull moose 890lbs. dressed weight. dropped 1 shot. all the clearcuts up here you need a flat shooting rifle and the 7mm fits the bill perfectly.

Remington 740 30.06 has been old faithful for me.  I also have a Ruger .45 carbine that I have yet to kill a deer with but have heard it is a great close range brush gun.

H&R Ultra in .270 shooting Winchester Supreme ballistic tips. Does the job nicely. I had this gun handed down to me from my father when I turned 21 and have carried it for nearly 19 years. Not only is this a nicely made gun but its real pretty too!

90% of my hunting is done with my
Remington 742-BDL  in 30-06 shooting 180 grain bullets. We've been together for 29 years now.
The rest is done with a Ruger .44 carbine shooting 180 grain hollow points,
Mossberg 500 12 ga. with copper solids,
or my OLD Onieda Screaming Eagle bow.

TR19Dad shoots a Remington 740 30-06 with 180 grain bullets or a Remington 870 Express 12 ga.

TR19jr is shooting a Remington Model 7 in 7mm-08 & 140 grain bullets.

I see a serious Remington devotion issue here.......

Mainly us my T/C Encore for everything. 300 win mag barrel for deer, 223 barrel for coyotes, 12 ga turkey barrel, and 50 cal muzzle loader. Rugar 44 mag carbine for deer and bear. All are topped off with a 3.5 x 10 Weaver Grand slam. Best scope for the money in my opinion. At least until they realised they had a great scope and jacked the price up. Rugar 10/22 for small game. A 870 12 ga pump that my father bought me many years ago, that has taken just about every animal out there.  Now looking for a AR in 223 for coyotes. Purchased a night scope to mount on it last season. I mainly use the T/C 223 for day time hunts.

Weatherby Vanguard sporter SS 22-250 rem, topped with a Weaver 3-10X40 scope, drops deer on the spot a long ways out.

I also have the dog in the cabinet, a 303 brit, as much as I dislike that gun.......it drops deer, even when it shouldn't

Hard to go wrong with Remington guns TR. I have  a lot of them myself.
I have the 700 in .270 as well  Doober, and my brother has the Savage in 30-06. Have taken deer with both, the Savage shoots very well but like the .270 a little better as far as ruining meat. A 180gr 30-06 does a number on a shoulder. They don't go anywhere though.

My favorites are Brownings. I 've owned Mossburg and Remington but now all I have are Brownings. My 2 favorites are:

#1. Browning A Bolt Medallian Series 270 shooting 130 Grain Boattail  - shoots flat and plenty of knock down power for most deer
#2. Browning A Bolt Synthetic Stock, Stainless Steel w/Boss 7MM Short Rim Mag with a Nikon Scope - nice gun overall

up here in n. maine we have huge clearcuts. some thousands of yards long. i have a rem. 700 in 7mm mag that fits the bill. killed a doz. deer and a moose with it. none went more than 40 yrds.before folding up. and believe it or not i havent lost much meat either. it does put a hole in them but make a heart/ lung shot everytime you dont have to worry about ruining meat. longest shot was 364 yrds. on a 6pt. even with a 5-10mph wind i still took him through both lungs resting on a stump. some consider this caliber overkill but for up here i think it really excells. recoils about the same as a 30'06 and in lighter grain loads is extremely flat shooting. for short range thick woods i have to agree the 30-30 is hard to beat for ease of use and effectiveness. killed my second deer w/ my uncles 30-30.

7mm is a good choice for those types of shots, as is a 300 mag.  Congrats of some fine shooting.

Thompson Center G2 .45  W/ 11/2-6 X 42 Nikon Monarch Gold 30mm

Remington Model 700 all the way.
Tweaked so the trigger squeeze is very slight. Equipped with a Bushnell 9 power scope. About as accurate as can be.
With the right shooter, you could practically drive nails with it at 75 yards

Well, mine has surely changed since I joined the site!

I do most of my damage with a Ithaca Deerslayer 2 in 12ga. Otherwise my .280 x bolt gets the nod. It’s the confidence factor. Both of them I know when I point it’s game over no matter circumstance
