Moose Hunt
« on: Oct 22, 2007, 07:59:00 AM »
First of all I need to apologize for not responding to the posts I posted on shed hunting and the Whitetail pic's. Right after I made those posts I left to go back and try to get my Wyoming Moose. I had put a week in hunting during September archery season and only saw a cow Moose. I then went back Just last week during rifle season and found this Bull after seven days of hunting. I had been applying for this permit for 25 years and finally got this permit for the high desert in southern Wyoming. It was not your typical Moose habit and was wondering if I would connect. He might not be the biggest but one of my most earned trophies. I would like to thank Wyohunter for telling me about this area.

Nice bull Big Ice!................Congrats..................I would have thought that the wolves had wiped out all of the moose in that area by now.

Milton thanks! I just plan on doing a European mount.

Bonehead Thanks! The Wolves are doing a number on the Wyoming Moose population but they have not got into Southern Wyoming yet that I know of.

Congrats on the moose, Big Ice.

I'm sure it was sweet getting it done after applying all those years.

I'm going on 25 years applying with no tag yet so maybe your luck will rub off on me!

Better fire up the extra freezer!

FishN4Eyes,
I hope you draw they are a big animal, you are so right about needing more freeze space. It took my wife and I 2 full days to cut and wrap him up. freezer space is starting to max out.

BoneHead,
I have a few euro mounts I like them, can you show a close up of your whitetail mount.

thanks bigice! One thing i didn't consider before i started was how much time is involved in cleaning. ::) But it was worth it in the end, and would do it again.

BH, I have done several skull mounts and I do know what you mean about the boiling process takes time. The end result is all worth it. I have done Elk before but this Moose skull was so big my pot was not quite big enough. We have a local person who does the beetle clean method. It is costing me a little and I will do the whiting myself. Your work is very good!

nice bull big ice...its weird because all the moose up here in maine are concentrated around swamps and damp woodlands, i never would have thought that there would be any in the desert

Big Ice,
Great pic and a very nice bull. I was getting worried that I might have led you astray getting you to put in down there. It's deffinently not your normal moose country.
