2011 Montana Elk Down
« on: Oct 24, 2011, 12:30:34 PM »
Hunted with my Dad in central Montana opening weekend.

Saw a few smallish fives and a broken up six on Saturday morning. Tough for me to pass on brow-tine bulls when I have two daughters chomping at the bit to go hunting and punch their tags so this was one weekend when I was hunting for myself as both daughters were not feeling well and couldn't go. I figured I better try to get it done when I had the chance.

Glad I did as I ran into this guy right before dark on Saturday night.

Many thanks to my Dad for helping out on the retrieval. Pretty rewarding to have him right there with me on one of my best bulls to date.

Time to get out with the two girls now!

Good luck to all the other fellow hunters.

I have TWO big freezers!    :D

The girls have two elk tags apiece and two deer tags apiece and I still have an antlerless elk tag as well.

Once we get enough meat to get our family through the year, we donate the rest of the meat to people who can use it.

Believe me, it isn't a problem finding people to take elk meat and if it helps people out it, so much the better.

Plus that means I still get to go hunting!

We gave away two elk last year to families in need so that makes you feel pretty good when you can make a difference.

He had really good thirds.   They're both about 20".

I've shot several sixes in this area and they all have had real short thirds so i was really pleased.
