Thanks, Zimmer.
While the hunting isn't extremely taxing physically-wise, it's more of a mental game. The spring days are long up there and we spent 17-18 hour days sitting in one spot looking over the 7-8 sq. miles of country. Spend a few days in one spot, then float down the river 8 to 10 miles and do it all over again.
It's tough for guys like us who are used to moving around and hiking for elk ect. to stay in one spot and glass the same country over and over, but you'd swear there wasn't a bear in the area and then one would step out. We saw 22 bears before I shot one, with one other "shooter" that we didn't get. It was my third attempt at a nine-foot or better bear so I was extremely grateful to finally get one.
Vivlamored,
I talked to a lot of people about this, but no one salvages the meat. We left the carcass at the kill site. I'm quite certain it didn't last long as there were other bears nearby that probably made quick work of it.
