2011 Ohio Public Land Buck

Shot this big bodied 8 pointer at 5:15pm Thursday 11/10/11, the Full Moon. Climbed up a new tree downwind of a thick bedding area at 2pm, heard a big buck rubbing a tree and working a scape at 35yds, way too thick to shoot, pretty sure he was a 10, 2:45; he walked away to the North. Kept an eye where I saw the buck and sure enough a tall tined 8 stepped out and followed the same path at 3:20. Thought about moving closer but didn't want to spook any deer.

A little after 5 I see another buck come out from the same opening, this one decided to head South toward my shooting lane at 20 yds. I drew when he went behind a tree, but he decided to walk straight at me, went directly beneath my stand. I turned completely around while at full draw, and finally he turned slightly quartering away at 12yds; l was looking through the peep and didn't notice a small branch. Arrow deflected and passed through his neck I later found out. He went about 50yds to a small creek, and I finally saw him go down for good through the thick stuff after about 15-20 minutes. I was getting dark and I had about a half mile to cart him out, a lot of it through the briars; Full Moon provided good light though.

Congrats on a very successful trip!! Glad you got to go and enjoy lands that hold good numbers of deer, and excellent hunting!!
Thinking that will be what I do for hunting next year....got to do something different that I am now!!! ;)

Great buck. The game cart is one of the best hunting investments I made. I was wondering about the hole in the neck, glad he didn't go far.
