buck down!

this guy came in with three other deer at 6:30 last night.  i saw him and two of the others...they were all bucks.  he was the biggest of the three i saw and presented me with a nice shot, so i took it!  < 20 yard shot went straight through the heart.  rage 3-blade through the heart and he still went over 70 yards before dropping dead.  he went 171 lbs.

long drag out got me home at 10PM.  with a predicted overnight low of 60 i was really worried about the meat.  i ended up hosing out his cavity with cold water and sticking a 20lb back of ice in it.  left him in the back of the truck.  checked him in first thing this morning and he was quartered and in the beer/deer fridge by 8AM!
