Black powder Doe
« on: Dec 12, 2020, 05:21:18 PM »
I had a hunch this morning the deer would be walking on some logging roads . I switched it up and sat my friends stand instead of mine. His is in a spot we’re 3 old skidder trails merge . Just before 8 on the last day of muzzle I hear deer coming . I touched off the musket and dropped her in her tracks a 65 yard shot with my CVA Optima 50 cal. I hit her a little high so I had to reload and walk up to we’re she fell and put another one into her. She dressed out at 125.5 LBS , not a Buck but very thankful. This was also the 4 th year in a row to harvest a deer.
This was the 15 th deer I saw this year. I had a few chances earlier and didn’t have the perfect shot so I passed. Most of the season it was above freezing so when deer came in I never heard them walking on the wet leaves until they were close and they winded me . Today was awesome !

Congrats! I'd take a doe if I ever remember to apply for a permit and get fortunate enough to get a doe tag.
I shoot the same smoke pole with camo, thumbhole stock. Great bang for the buck... or doe.

Thanks !
This was the first time ever getting a permit in District 15. Lots of deer there just couldn’t find a Buck to come through. At least this Doe was a good one to harvest. The state gave out lots of permits I even got a bonus in 21, I hunted there 3 times and saw 2 deer but didn’t have a quality shot.
