Fixing Creaky Stands
« on: Aug 06, 2015, 12:26:02 PM »
I've got a stand that's a few seasons old and has become a bit creaky.  You guys got any suggestions for quieting the thing down.? I was thinking about starting with tightening all the nuts and bolts see if that does the trick. Anyone ever try any type of lube in the joints or anything like that with any success. The only thing that concerns me about lubricants is the odors...

Checking loose bolts and nuts should be priority anyways, a bit of white Lithium grease won't hurt and will get rid of the noise, also having it sit wrong in a tree can cause noise as well

When assembling them initially I either use a single layer of electrical tape or spray on bed liner between the joints. I'm not sure you'll get it to completely stop without taking it apart. They seem to squeak more in the cold, so it may go away only to start again when the temps drop below freezing. You could squirt expanding foam insulation into the bolt holes, it will muffle the sound if it comes back too.
