I finally did it! I started serious Bear hunting 3 years ago. I grew up on the seacoast here and still live here where there is no bear population worth hunting and most I know have never seen one locally nor harvested one. I figured the best way to learn is to teach yourself so the last 2 years I started my own bait site and through trial and error I got pics on the cam at night and that was it. This year was different I had a little more knowledge and a spot 20 mins. from the house and got bears on camera in daylight yesterday. I sat 4 hours yesterday afternoon with just deer sightings and this morning for 4 hours with the same results.
I quietly snuck in at 4 PM today and when I got 15 yards from the barrel I could see a black triangle on top of the barrel? HMMM I don't remember that? I eased my way to 10 yards and a bears head popped up from the barrel, I clicked off the safety on my new 35 Whelen and fired and my first bear dropped a minute into the hunt! My first bear that I have worked so hard for the last few years was mine! not one of the big ones on camera but it is a trophy to me. 110 lbs. dressed!
My good buddy OL MOSSY HORNS got one tonight as well just up the road. Couldn't be happier for him his first bear as well dressed at 216 a real stud! We doubled on the same day last fall in Maine on some huge bucks not far from each other as well, here are a few pics!

So are you getting a head mount or a rug Frankie? Have you eaten any of the meat yet? If so how is it?

I was lucky enough to find a cooler already on In Maine, so its still hanging ( I live on the Maine border) so no haven't had it yet but anticipate it will be phenomenal eating. Bio said 2 years old, it only ever ate berries, and nuts Til the other day lol and it was instant kill the second that 250 core lokt hit.
The guy with the cooler is cutting and caping it for 80 bucks do for that price I said just do it, I don't have the time right now anyway.
Still haven't decided on a 3/4 mount or a rug or a tan skin, I have Til Sunday to decide, the prices are outrageous…

Congrats AA
-
AA - steak the backstraps and turn the rest into burger cut w/ pork - 2 parts bear, 1 part pork.
i can't believe what rugs cost... seems like they'd be a lot easier for the taxidermist than 3/4 mounts, but what do i know lol
-
Yep that's what I'm doing 8)

Almost taxidermists don't do the rugs them selfs. They send the hide out to be tanned.. Get it back and do the head part and send it out to a rug maker to do the rest....
-
Well Frank, if you have a rug or 3/4 mount, most places want a little down then you can make monthly payments to them, by the time it's done you should have it almost paid off. GOOD JOB guys. 8)
-
Gonna let a good friend do it, he is gonna hook me up for cost since he is fairly new to it
-
cant wait to make the jerky from it!

Nice bear bud I have been scouting and trying to get a patern on a few we have around here.
