jeez....up here in AK, they are EVERYWHERE, you cant even walk thru the forest or drive an old trail or dirt road without seein some....they are fun to shoot i think, and i like to chop em up and brown em in the skillet, and eat em in a omelete, or simmer em in a stew.....its good stuff. one time we were bowhunting moose, and a covey of spruce hens were in the middle of the trail . 4 flew pretty quick but one just sat there, like we couldnt see him or somethin. my buddy picks up a little twig the size of your finger, and throws it at the bird and it fell over into a little tiny puddle of water like 1 inch deep barely enough to get his feet wet, all floppin around and couldnt get up...it was hilarious, we still get great laughs about that one. we cooked him on a open flame on the spot. good lunch. when we go up north by the yukon in fall, between 4 of us, within 3 hours we got over 60 birds. we also have ruffed grouse and sharptail grouse, and 2 kinds of ptarmigan.
