Dumb Old Spruce!!

Well a little while ago during Bear Season my dad was walking to his tree stand when this Spruce grouce exploded 1 foot in front of him my dad said it gave him quiet a jump.

Ya it happen to us when we were Grouse hunting 2 of them flew up and then my dad blasted them both out of the air it was awsome.

My brother showed me a picture in a magazine,(Outdoor Life?) of a ruffed grouse that landed on a deer hunters head, while he was in a tree stand. His buddy took the picture, or else nobody would have believed him. Where are those dumb ones when I'm hunting?

I always seem to be on stand in a flight path of a bunch of grouse, they always seem to fly by me really close.  They are just on their way to somewhere. they fly by then land, but I don't know why I am always close to their flight path.  It is cool though.

I always have a difficult time finding them while I'm out looking for them but come deer season they are everywhere I go.

Here in Vt spruce grouse are protected. Shooting one could get you in big trouble. Ive only ever seen one. theyre pretty cool.

No question about it that the spuce was last in line on the day they handed out brains. When you stumble into a flock it's almost not even sporting to use a gun ( unless you can get them to fly ). Rather a sling shot to make it some what of a challenge.
And as eating goes the name says it all.

We're aloud to kill them here in N.B but its pointless they taste like crap, males are pretty cool lookin bird tho

Yea i can hunt them but i was taking a pee while deer hunting when one of the little buggers flew up and scared.

they are protected here in ny also. I have never seen on in the wild just in the dec hunting book you are right the males are a cool looking bird
