your take of PA running Deer and Bear Season combined ?
« on: Sep 16, 2005, 11:08:24 AM »
any gripes ?

Likes ?

or just doesnt bother you ?

Myself I think its a heck of an idea .... the Bear population is increasing
and if the Hunters get out in the woods and move around they are bound
to stir some up ...

I got my Bear Stamp for the first time and if I see one I will try to get it ...

Good Luck to all Hunters this year and please remember to identify your target
and be safe out there in the woods ....

Honestly, it doesn't bother me.  I don't hunt bear, and I don't hunt in the mountains anymore.  No deer.  Just another way for the commission to make money.  Good luck this fall and I hope ya get a big one (bear).

New York has bear season open the second week of gun season for deer in the southern zone.  I think its a good idea to have both seasons open at the same time if the goal is to keep the population in check.  You are more likely to see bears and move them around if more hunters are in the woods.  New York bear season used to open on the same day as deer season but they moved it to a week later because they thought the pregnant sows would be more likely to be denned up by then.  My hunting property is close to the PA border so I buy a PA license too.  I have seen more bears on the PA side.

that's cause they gotta big bait pile over in Hershey... ;D

the bear(with firearms) season in maine runs from the end of Aug. to the end of Nov. and the firearm season for deer is only 1 month...end of oct. till end of nov.     :-\      that's why I bought a bow this year

You've got a typo there ff, deer season runs until the end of NOVEMBER.  ;D  I've never seen a bear in the woods while deer hunting, but there aren't many in my area anyway. I have to travel 2-4 hrs north to be in bear territory.

In areas where there is a bear problem, it is another way to
help reduce the pouplation.
