Joel, you know the powerline I'm talking about. I think, Tuff Buck could vouch for it.

that I can, we've taken many out of the there not to mention all of them that Ive seen that were too far out of range to hit,the blind I hunt up there can be very tricky, especially for me with my hearing, they can come up right behind you or even directly in front of you but on a ledge thats low and youd never know it was there if youre not paying attention.

30-06 is a much better caliber than a 270 ! 30-06 you can shoot a110gr. bullet or a 220grain.

I personally have killed whitetails at 500yds. +  with a 30-06.

I hunt mostly with a 308 due to the guns I own , but I still have my dads 30-06 , I take it out every once in a while. I also killed my largest Adirondack buck with it , a 12 point , 208 lbs. dressed out.

You should have stuck with the 06.

Besides, my 30.06, which I love.
I also have a 243win, custom made 300win mag, a 7mm mag, and custom made 338win mag(which I have not put a scope on yet). I love every one of my rifles, they shoot excellent. The 338 has been a closet queen though. That will change later this summer. The only thing with having that selection is, I have a hard time to decide what one I want to take on any particular day. :D

I would say, my favorite bullet grain for the .06 would be the 165 grain boatail. I've killed more deer with that grain for the .06 over the years, than all other rifle calibers, and bullets combined that I have used.

I havent used the largest variety of rifle in my 27 years of hunting but in my limited experience the 30-06 was the best,30-30 just dont cut it for distance the 45-70 was too much up close and the 300 mag was just overkill

expected that from you. :D I have no problem using a caliber that big as long as its a clean kill, you know my father in law uses 1 and sights it in every other year,He's shot deer only to blow the front leg off and have in run off on the other 3,I hate to see things like that happen :(

I definetly agree with you on that the 165gr. is what I always liked in my 30-06 also. I also use that grain in my 308's , I come to like the Hornady's,  always shot the Fedral 165 up to a couple years ago.

308win, now that's another fine caliber. For out-of-the-box ammo, I agree,..Hornady all the way.
And yea, that 165 grain always seemed to drop 'em dead in their tracks for me. I never had a deer run off after being shot by that bullet.
30yds. was the farthest that I could ever remember any of them went.
