DEER IN THE FIELDS
« on: Sep 08, 2004, 06:46:52 PM »
I was painting on the back of the house late this afternoon and happened to see a doe and lamb feeding down in the field.  :o I have a small field behind the house and the deer are finally starting to come out. The past few years they have been out there all summer long, but haven't seen them much this year.

Well I think they have flown the coop  :( I haven't seen hardly anything since my last post. I live in district 23 where there is supposed to be a lot of deer but they are not near my house. I've taken a few walks down back and there is not much sign - and less that one week to go!  ??? Maybe once the season starts, other hunters will push them back into my area.  :-\

Just went out my back door at lunch time today and there were 4 deer standing in my back field looking at me. They were about 75 yards away. Maybe this will be a good year.

Well a deer finally showed itself behind the house this morning, so I guess they are around, but few and far between. It was an easy winter so hopefully I'll be seeing more.
I also found fresh tracks where a moose walked accross my lawn up my driveway either last night or early this morning. I wish I'd seen him.

I happened to look out today at lunch time and saw this deer walking up toward the house. I thought it was a doe at first - seems that's all that ever comes out, but it was a small buck. He had a couple of spike horns in velvet, I don't know if they will branch out into crotch horns or not. Here's a few pics.

He was just on the edge of my back lawn.

He stuck around for about a half an hour before heading back into the woods.

Always fun to watch.

I think it may turn out to be a good fall. I've been seeing deer almost daily. There was a doe and fawn still in spots yesterday. That little thing was running around and kicking up it's heels like a young calf..........or like a young fawn I guess. A lot of fun to watch. Too far away to get any pics.
