Winchester 1890
« on: Aug 20, 2004, 07:09:34 AM »
Just inherited a Winchester Model 1890 chambered for .22 shorts. I think it might be considered an antique or collectors item and I'm trying to figure out its value, anyone got any ideas?

Post me a serial # and I can look it up.

Can you post any pics? Condition is important.

Thanks for the reply RG, serial is 560861, not able to post pictures yet (still trying to get on photobucket). I would say the rifle's probably in average condition, faded bluing, no pitting or rusting that I can see.

Thanks RG, I'm sure things must be starting to heat up for you what with the cooler nights starting to make folks think about that rifle they were going to drop off at the end of last fall, but then stuck it in the gun safe and forgot about it until now.

Phoenix,
You got that right! Lots of smokepolers getting ready for the early season as well.

Phoenix,
Your firearm was made around 1915. Value in 50% condition would be in the area of $400 depending on a few things.

I assume it's an octagon barrel...was the receiver blued or case hardened?

Hows the bore...pitted?... Bright with very visable lands and grooves?

How are the stocks...original or refinished ?

Has anyone ever attempted to reblue or touch up the firearm?

These things considered it could be worth more to a collector.
