just wondering what kind people use . well for myself just call me old fashion i;am not a big fan in-lines [no offence] i love hammers ::) the ones i own are t/c hawkens ,t/c reanagade in flint ,1861 springfield [repro] love to get my hands on a orginal :-*and a cva hawkens pistol.
-
I have a T/C Hawken .50 cal and a CVA Optima in-line .50 cal. I enjoy hunting with the flintlock and have taken many deer with it but am much more accurate with the in-line. ;D We have a flintlock only season after Christmas here in PA and that's when I break out the Hawken.
-
I have a CVA Apallo(sp) in line. I bought it at Meijers 10 or 12 years ago on sale for $225 with a scope and starter kit. I am looking at upgrading to the T/C contender with the break open action. They seem alot easier to clean. Has anyone used the new triple 7 pellets, I have heard these make clean-up alot easier also.
-
I use a T/C firestorm 50 cal in Pa's flintlock season.
-
Lyman Great Plains .54. It is a sweet shooting rifle and I love it.
-
i have a CVA magbolt. i love it. very accurate and you couldnt ask for more for the price.
-
Remington, Model 700ML, sweet gun
-
a 45 caliber navy arms kentuky long rifle, a t.c new englander with bothe .50 cailber and 12 gauge barrles and a T.C sentca 36 cailber and i want a mdm buckwaka
-
I shoot a T/C Renegade in flint lock season and an Encore for everything else. This is a little late for a reply to an earlier question but I use triple 7 pellets in my inline and they make clean-up a snap. Also they don't stink as much eather.
Jim
-
I have an old Renegade in 54 cal and 50 cal also a new T/C Encore 50 cal and also have the 22-250 barrel for varmits.
-
I've got a knight wolverine 209 in 50 cal. Accurate and I love the trigger. Not so much of a looker though but I love it none the less.
-
I have a regular knight, it is really accurate, but I would like to have a T/C Omega, because they are so easy to clean
MASTERGUIDE
-
i've had a knight wolverine, a t/c hawken 50 cal. and now own a t/c encore. 8) haven't figured out a load for the encore yet as i bought it after the 2003 season and then had a detached tendon in my shoulder reattached just before the 04 season so didn't make that season :( so i'm getting pretty restless waiting for the oct. opener this year. :)
-
I hunt a Remington 700 ml, i just put a 209 conversion on it. it is toped with a 3-9 X 40 simmons.
-
.50 caliber CVA. Works great. Also use powerbelt bullets.
-
TC BigBoar 58 cal (she leaves a hole!)
TC Black Diamond 50 cal, stainless barrel
-
what kind of bullets are you shooting out of these how many grain powder are you shooting trying to find the best bullet for my remington 700ml any info is great.
-
i have a remington 700 ML also. I shoot 295 gr power belts backed with 75gr of 777. it will hold 2" groups at 75 yrds. I was shooting 80gr of 777 and getting 3" groups
-
Rossi .50 cal in-line with scope, 180gr hornadey sabots, 100grs Jim Shockey Gold pellets
CVA sharpshooter .50 cal patch and ball, 100 grs pyrodex powder
-
Two (2) T/C Encores .. one is blued with a 2-7x Leupold .. the other is a stainless with the flextech recoil reduction system and a 3-9x Leupold .. they're both proven killing machines !
-
Just bought a CVA 50. cal. break open 209 primer from Gander Mountain. Haven't even shot it yet. I bought the triple 7 loads on recomendation. Had a 3x9 scope mounted and bore sighted on it. We'll see how it shoots this week.
-
Rossi .50 cal in-line with scope, 180gr hornadey sabots, 100grs Jim Shockey Gold pellets
well, looks like we have the same taste!
i got the rossi match set that comes with the .50 cal. inline, the 12 guage modified choke, and .243 for under $300.
my oldest boy actually just got the .45 cal. in line, 20 guage, and .22lr match set for his birthday.
great deals, and very accurate guns.
-
I'm the second to post...Lyman Great Plains, 54 caliber. Old school, 1/60 twist means patch-round-ball is the only option for accurate shooting. Big cloud of smoke, BIG entrance and exit hole...I love the challenge of the one shot, percussion cap hunt.
-
I'll third that DeerReaver, I have the Great Plains Hunter in 50 cal and the 54 cal round ball, with the patched ball being more accurate. Took my first doe and buck with round ball and real black powder, .54 ball does some serious damage, old school.
-
alot of respect to you cap and ball guys!
i shoot pretty much exclusivly with single shot weapons, but for some reason never got interested in the ball shooting, my grandfather swears by it, but im an inline guy :-\
-
A patched ball was the only legal projectile in NY when I took my first couple deer.
-
remington 700 ml power belt bullets and 777
-
I have 3, One Encore in a 45, a Knight Wolverine inline 50, and TC Hawkens flintlock,That flint lock is the most fun you can have in the snow with your cloths on!KLICK BANG BOOM .BB
-
I have a Traditions 50 cal in line 209 primer i seem to be the only one with this kind of gun are they a bad gun or what
-
I have 2 uncles that both have tradition inlines.Work for them.BB
-
T/C Omega 50cal with 100grn pyrodex pellets
Its my favorite gun. I did shoot the Pro Hunter and that is a very smooth shooting gun as well
too expensive for me though
-
T/C Omega Stainless with a camo thumbhole stock topped with a Leopold 3-9 stainless, just replaced my T/C Hawken. I'm shooting 150 gr. of pellets with T/C Omega Shockwaves. My boy took a doe with it and the results were AMAZING
Wife bought it for my birthday. Isn't she great ??
-

Here`s the Hatfield.not a real good pic. maby I will change it later.
-
I have two inlines and a kit hawken, all 50 cal. one traditions, one cva, the inlines are easier to work with, but I am partial to the kit, I put it together and finished it, had to file on the sights to get adjusted, worked with a friend who does gunsmith work and he showed me how to adjust the trigger, took two men and a boy to pull out of the box.
Plus the only buck I have taken was with the Hawken.
But I don't hunt much with them as bow season is still going when muzzle loading opens. Last fall on opening day of muzzle loading I took a 4 point with the bow that the muzzle guys pushed to me. he he,.
Guess as long as your competent with it and it performs to your liking then it is a good gun for you.
MrMarty, that is a beauty of a gun.

TC Omega(blued) 50cal. I use 100gr of Pyrodex(2 pellets)for a charge & a 250 gr. TC Shockwave round(yellowtip)
This load setup has given me a consistent group with this weapon & I see no need to put an extra pellet in, for more "oomph". I don't have good reason to add the extra charge at this time
At the ranges I usually shoot deer, This setup has done it's job fine for me, since I got it.
One shot,One kill.
;)
Personally I would prefer a traditional one. But I wanted to get an inline also. It just happened that I got a good deal on the TC first. Haven't found a good deal for a traditional cap & ball rifle yet. One will come along eventually. Until then, I 'm happy.
:D

Thanks for the links MrMarty51! :D
I'll go & check them out. $$$ are kinda tight right now, but hopefully later this year. I can still look though!
;)
-
Well, as of this year I'll be shooting two different ones.
For in close and thick stuff (under 50 yeards, and closer) ill stick to my TC Hawken .50 cal.
But for those longer and more open places I hunt I invested in a Cabela's rolling block .50 cal, .209 primer, with scope. Beatuiful gun, and I've read some good reports on it, heading to the range later in the week when I get some time off to get it sighted in and get comfortable with it.
Would have loved to had vtuck with the old Hawken but after seing a monster late last season too far out for a shot I made the decision change to something a little more modern.
-
AD, I heard a rumor you got a new toy. 8)
I'll still be carrying my CVA Optima .50 in black synthetic / stainless for smokepole season. Hope you get home for some of it.

Not sure when the season will be up north, Ill be home the week of thanksgiving. Forgot to apply for my doe tags in NY, :-\ . Can't really manage any longer off for the trip (well I dont think so at leaste), with it being stocking season and such. I'll be sure to bring it north with me to show off though.

-
.50 cal CVA Optima Pro with a Bushnell Banner 3-9X40 on top shooting 250 gr Shockwaves and 100 grains of 777 powder. It pretty much groups all bullets in the same hole at 50 yards, and i get about a 1" group at 100 yards. My favorite gun to shoot.
-
T/C omega weathershield, open sights.
shockwave bullets and 100 gr. pyrodex are the best results for me.
