My 1982 Model 37 Deerslayer favored 2 3/4" Winchester rifled slugs( Pumpkin Balls)!
I also replaced the rear site with a Ruger type one like the one on the 10/22.
It shot its best groups when I mounted a 1x4 on the receiver!
And I hope your sighting in at a bench rest and not free hand!

They are a light gun so they will kick pretty hard. The rifled slugs should group for you, I killed over 50 deer with my old model 37 20 ga, they are a nice gun. Good luck to you....ps... the advise about letting it cool down is right on, it can change A LOT when the barrel heats up, make sure your first shot is on the mark & you'll be all set.

I've shot those Winchesters through my smooth bore Mossberg 500 and also was all over the place. I'm assuming its those as I've heard pretty much only negative things about them. STKA and the boys have given you some good advice.

Everybody is right on,rifled slugs out of the smooth bore barrel. Also 100% correct on letting that barrel cool every 2 - 3 shots, for some reason the barrel on mine seems to heat up real fast & throws everything out of whack.

I've always used remington rifled slugs out of my Ithaca XL900 smooth barrel and those are spot on out to 75 yards.  Pick up a box of those they're cheap might work for you.

Just tossing this out there----if you have had your barrel off for any reason make sure it's tight to the receiver. Gunner

Sabots will tumble out of that smoth bore gun. DO NOT USE. tHATS WHY AT 25 YOU ARE THERE AND AT 50 THEY ARE TUMBLING OUT TO NOWHERE. Just use remington rifle slugs.

USE WHAT YA GOT TO GET WHAT YA NEED !

I always had good luck with Winchester or Activ rifled slugs in my smoothbore slug guns.  My Mossberg 500 with rifled barrel shot excellent groups with Lightfield slugs (they better shoot good at $7.00 a box).

$7.00 a box for lightfields sabots? I was paying $12.00 a box of 5 for 12 gauge in 2004! :o

I have an old 37 DS that I have killed over 100 deer with.  For some reason the only slug I could get a consistant group with was Winchester Super X rifled slugs.  I tried Remington's and they were just not consistant...just my experience.  A lot of great memories with that old gun.  Good luck.

Well to make a lonnng story short. Shot the gun today for a long time, had a bunch of other guys at the club shoot it to make sure it wasnt me. COnsistently shot extreamly high. This being the second problem i have had with the gun in the week i have owned it i was just not happy with it so i returned it. Got my money back bougth a red dot and put it on the mossberg 500 i was sooo unhappy with last year. Was blowing 3 inch targets to shreds at 75 yards and 5 inch groups at 100. now im happy and have that extra money in my bank acount. stueben county look out your gonna loose a racker this weekend.

Must be you were able to get comfortable with the 500? Did you add a recoil pad? Glad your shooting it well. My brothers shoots real well with the rifled barrel he has on it.
Was the Ithaca used?
