Great thread guys.

I never had much luck rabbit hunting but may try it again soon.

Any tips for a solo hunter with no dogs.

The thicker the brush, the more the rabbits will find it appealing.     Take the hard way, not the easy trail

Issiah's right- the thicker the better. Wade right in & kick the brushpiles harder than you think you need to & then stand still and BE READY. Repeat a couple hundred times. Recently logged area's with lots of tops & tangles are good. Think of spots with briar patches & thick grapevine tangles too. Hunting with snow is the way to go if you can. I grew up doing this all winter, hop off the school bus, change & chase bunnies. Nowadays I just go when the dogs are going too- watching and listening to them work is just awesome. I was on here killing time til it was time to go this morning but just got the call...rain delay of game...postponed until tomorrow.   :(

But on the bright side...I was going to miss an open house at one of the best cooks I know today because of hunting.
Now I get to go eat like a king instead... :) life is good!

Sounds like a win win...        Hopin to still get out here in a little bit if its not pouring;  probably tough on the dogs to go in the rain.  When I was a kid my Uncle use to run Beagles; Can remember him calling off hunt because of rain

When we were kids we would have one jump on all the brush piles and flush them out while the others stood by to shoot...also when there is snow you can find tracks and just circle the area until you jump the little boogers...

I can remember a few years ago it snowed then a couple weeks went by and all the snow melted, we went out snowshoe hunting and they were white and stood out well in the brown background. we took 22s and all you had to do is look for the white with the small dark circle.  TC

Still gotta hit a 3 inch circle at a good distance through trees and brush, but I guess you could scare them first and then hit them on the run with a 22.   :)
