the only downside is that the non hunting comunity would have a say in how their money is spent.  Although the politicians seem to listen to them more than us anyway.  At least there would be more money

if you got denied this year then keep checking your mail dec is mailing remaining dmps to 8%  of the people who were denied and this will not affect your prefference pts for next yr

if yo want to know more got to dec site and read the press releases

I don't mean to gloat here, really I don't.
Not only did I get my requested DMPs, I also was drawn for permits to hunt in Letchworth and Silver Lake state parks. I saw an eight-pointer this morning that has my name on him.

 ;D

First of all, I am in favor of opening day being on a saturday. It lets the working person
that cannot get off work for any reason during the week experience opening day.

This is the first year in over 25 years that I have not hunted deer in NY. I am a non-resident
and in my areas (9Y & 7S), no doe permits were avail to non-residents. Also not as many as
in past years for residents were avail either.  Why are so many avail to farmers, tree growers,
etc. for damage control.  I know a lot of hunters that did not purchase a license this year,
due to the decrease in doe permits. Just think of all the money that DEC has lost (It is all
about money isn't it?)  Just my rant!

i dont think in this case its "all" about the money, im sure money is behind it somehow, but in this case i think they have just handed out 2 doe permits to every tom, dick, and harry, resident or not for the past few years and now with the rifle season starting i think if they didny slow down the handouts of doe tags they would really screw up the deer population in NY. just my .02 but i think it will work out in the end.

I wouldn't mind if DEC stopped issuing deer management permits for a year or two just to build the population back up. For the past three years I've been seeing less deer and more hunters. Last year I saw 1 buck to every 10 does at the place where we get our deer processed.

If the ratio really is 10:1 (which I doubt) wouldn't it make more sense to issue DMP's and put an antler restriction on bucks for a few years?

That would make more sense to me. I've heard that bucks will even move out of an area if it is too overpopulated with does so they don't have to compete for food / breeding with future generations of deer. But like I say, that's just something I heard.
