Congrats young man on a fine doe for the freezer! Don't worry about those bucks.....the antlers dont taste too good anyway.
This is his forth deer, the three were bucks but the doe was a guaranteed deer so he took it. He passed up a doe three years ago and hunted all the rest of the season without taking a deer so his feeling are now to take the first good deer he sees. "Don't pass up on a deer the first day of a hunt that you wouldn't take on the last day of the hunt." You will have more meat in the freezer if you look at it this way.

Great doe on youth day, Trevor. Congrats!!!! What a nice looking firearm, too.

I know, I know; "Loves To Fish" as a username on a hunting forum is a little lame, but I do enjoy hunting. It's just that I do much better fishing than hunting. :D

The only time I use smelts while deer hunting is when the deer decide to cross a large body of water. Then I troll for them. :D

Awesome deer youngster. Trust me, there will be members on this forum that will wish they experince the day you had. I've passed on does on opening day before and got skunked the rest of the year. That is an awesome deer and a great looking gun. Saturday will be something you and your Dad will never forget.

Congrats!

Really!!!! :o :o :o :o I have NEVER lost or wounded a deer with a 30-30 and it is my prefered caliber. I own a number of others but it's what I always come back to.  It's all about shot placement and getting close. I am not nor ever been comfortable with those long shots.  I shot a deer years ago at about 225 235 yrds w/ a 270 and almost lost it. Never shot another over 100 yards most under 50

SLT, I agree 100%. I've hunted with a 30-30 all my life and never lost or wounded a deer I couldn't find. I've shot more then 20 in my lifetime. 200 yards shooting deer is a little long for me. I like hunting in the woods, not where you can land an airplane.

If he turns out like my boy he gets more excited about deer hunting than Christmas. My oldest daughter will be ten next year as well,  I cant wait to have two of my children to be able to go hunting with.  8) 8)
