wet weather for tomarrow
« on: Oct 15, 2010, 08:35:57 AM »

This will be the 2nd yr that I will hunt with a muzzle loader, I don't know that much about it. My question is how is this wet weather going to effect the fireing of my muzzle loader?

What type? In-line or cap lock.

just make sure the primer is covered and put a small piece of electrical tape over the muzzle and that will keep you good unless its a monsoon then i say stay warm and watch the hunting shows on tv at home lol

Should be fine....I like to put a small piece of plastic wrap attached with a rubber band to protect the end of my barrel on rainy days.

You should be fine, unless you actually submerge it in water the cap is pretty well protected on most in-lines. If you carry any extra powder and caps make sure you have them in a plastic bag or container to keep them totally dry. Make sure you carry extra powder and caps. Good luck.

All good advice 30-30. I use electrical tape over the muzzle. If you have a scope on it, a piece of plastic wrap and rubber band around the breech will
help and not effect your sighting. I also just make a effort to keep the gun level, and not muzzle pointed up or straight down.
Hope you see one to give it a try with!!

why not down upstate? So that moisture doesnt sneak in from the breech area? Just curious as I usually try to hold mine pointing down.

Yes, I have an older Traditions. The bolt opening is larger than some of the new ones. I've never had a problem, but just like to be safe.
I just really keep in mind muzzle control as to where it is pointing.

Mine is an older CVA bolt probably similar to yours. I've had that thing out in the nastiest of rain and snow storms. When I'm on watch, I try and keep the primer area covered in some fashin, with my coat, hat or whatever. Seems to work and never had a misfire. You taken the SP out Upstate or sticking with the bow?

Will probably stick with the bow. I usually do if I haven't killed one by the start of ML season. Unless it's raining then will probably take one more day to
try to get over this sinus infection. Will be tough if there is snow on the ground though.....

Cutting the fingers off latex gloves and stretching them over would probably work well too.
