Grouse Hunting in Southern Maine
« on: Oct 20, 2004, 07:34:04 AM »
Is it just me, or are the grouse in Southern Maine few and far between??? I was born and raised in the North Maine woods and there was never a problem locating birds, even with wet springs and harsh winters. Now that I live in Southern Maine I find it almost impossible to bird hunt. I realize the habitate is different but during a day hunting deer I average about one flushed grouse per day. That's not really great numbers...  :(

It may be that ya aint callin em right. As any Maine boy should know (especially one from northern Maine), these are pa'tridge. They're called Grouse by  folks from away who hunt with guns whose cost start at $2,500, and dogs costing more than some Maine houses. Grouse is something we do about bad coffee or bad drivers, etc.  ;)

BTW, they don't seem to be to plentiful up here in northern Maine this year either.

Ouch nice slam    ;)
I guess I've been too far to south for too long    ;D
I asked about partridge when I first started hunting down here and eveyone looked at em like I had two heads. I said "You know bird hunting, partridge"
"Nope, never heard of 'em"
"Come on, there's got to be partridge around"
"What's it look like?     Oh you mean grouse!"
"What the heck is a grouse"      ;D
Anyways, there ain't no pa'tridge in these here flatlands. Guess I'ma gonna have to go back ta the Valley and get me some! Yellow Line Road here I come!
