Speaking of new hunting rifles..........
I had a Centennial 66 that I was going to take hunting. In fact, I TOOK it with me to Maine. When my buddy saw it, he was rather insistant about NOT using it for hunting. He said it should be "on display" in fact.
Granted, the gun is a couple pounds heavier than a typical "94" of more contemporary build, but I loved the Octagon barrel, and the brass Receiver.
He had a few "94's" in his gun case, and I ended up saying to him, (after about the third time of telling me it should be "on display and not in the field," that "if it means that much to you to see this gun on the wall, I'll trade you for a top quality 94 in your gun case." Which he agreed to.
So.........in my possession now, is a 94 (pre-64) that is in EXCELLENT condition (took IT hunting), in trade. Since he was taking me out into the woods, putting me up in his house, feeding me (at no cost for any of that) I figured he had been offering me enough "extras" to balance out the deal.
In addition, this gun I traded for, is a gun that was handed down thru a couple of generations of that family. And since I am strongly connected to those folks and that area, it is special to me.
