Title: Slow Day at Iroquois NWR
Post by: Chucker on Nov 11, 2008, 02:28:12 PM
We took a gamble this morning, and went for stake #40, all the way in the NE portion of the refuge.  Kicked a bunch of geese out of the water when we walked in.  Put out a Canada, seagull, 6 mallards, pair of gadwalls, and 3 woodies.  Had birds drop into the far side of the hole before shooting light, but they left again.  Had a fair number of lookers, but many stayed high.  Nobody wanted to drop in, other than 4 green-wings which buzzed through around 7:15.  Buddy knocked a drake and a hen down with one shell.  Dog did a great job pulling them out of the thick stuff, and he hadn't even seen them fall.  Had 2 single mallards change their minds just out of shooting distance, but other than that, nothing came close.  Birds were spooky, and there was something about our spread they didn't like. Packed up around 9:30, and came home.
