He might be fine. Looks like it is in an area with oak trees and acorns so it should be fattening up. They do usually den with the mother, but it wasnt getting anything from her at this point. If she had been around, you would not have gotten that close without the cub going up a tree or taking off. I have climbed out of bear stands more than a few times with them at the bait, they sure do sound and act like they are ready to tear you up, lol.
