this is how u do it.  u take a 50 lb test baided lline with a big hook and a chunk of meat put meat on hook and have about 200 ft of line bring it out and drop it somewhere in pond where u think turtle is gonna be, leave it for a couple of days and u should have a turtle.  when u go to check it bring a pistol cuz ya gonna want to shoot it in the head.  then do whatever u want with him.  fishinboots ;Dhave fun!!

Like fishnboots said will work.  There is also traps that you can make, kinda like a big minnow trap but allows the turtle to get in.  You set them up near
shore so that the turtle will be able to stick his head up and breath.  I use the trusted method of heavy black cord to a heavy wire leader with a large
treble hook, and a hunk of chicken thigh or what ever.  I usually tie offr to a branch and toss it in the pond and then check it in a few hours.I'll set up
three or four down in the pond and get one on every line I set.  I've caught them in as little as 5 or 10 minutes.  Once caught I pull on the wire leader
to get the head to come out and then using a very sharp spade shovel or machete I chop the head off.  I like mine lightly battere and then fried.  Then
again what isn't good battered and fried.

My grandfather used to catch them all the time on jug lines. Does any one know a basic procedure to butchering them? All i remember is him hangin them by the tail then getting their lower jaw with vice grips and then cutting their head of with a knife. i dont remember seeing how you split the shell and what the cuts of meat are.

After u cut the head of let it bleed out then flip it on its back and where the bottom shell meets its top shell there is a skin or cartlige that joins the two that's where u cut the shell apart. Then once that's free cut the skin away all around the bottom shell and it should pop off. Next remove the legs neck and tail at the joints and take the skin off of them remove the guts and use a pair of wire cutters to remove the spin/ribs whichever u prefer to call them and remove the meat along the shell. Then soak over night in salt water and ur ready to cook the meat. U should keep the turtle a few days though in a cut off 55gal drum with clean water just enough to cover the shell to let the turtle clean itself out.
