If I wasn't trying to bank OT I'd play hooky and go in a heartbeat. What kind of ice was there, enough for the sled? If not how far is the walk?

Better watch out, that lake is addicting!  I'm off Friday afternoon, I may try to get out for the night bite.  If not, then maybe Saturday or Sunday morning.  I'd like to get one more trip in before the ice is gone.

Aaron ....  if you check this out by any odd chance tonight please respond here or pm me ....   if i understand this correctly a big chunk of ice broke loose and drifted east ....  which isn't even possible with the big chunk of ice we were on since east of it is shore  :o

So in theory the ice should still be fine for walking tomorrow?? .....  it was cold last night and i would imagine it was all locked up and solid this morning so 1 day of 50 degree weather wont help but shouldnt ruin the ice?

8 people had to be rescued today out of Bridgeport (Fisher Bay) and I've seen reports on other area lakes saying the ice is VERY rapidly deteriorating. If you go, bring safety gear & common sense. Old ice scares me more than early ice, I've gone through 6-7 inches that just sheared apart before...be careful!

I fished the east end all day , top layer is popcorning but I would guess it will be ok for a walker . HW is right tho spikes are a must . Unfortunately I got a bug of some kind and cant join you but good luck .... the fishin sucked today BTW but with the low pressure set in they gotta fire up sometime , be safe .

Sorry, I hit the sack early last night and didn't see this until morning.

It all depends on the wind!  If er get an east wind, you have a good chance of trolling!!!

My father was plucked off a burg back in the 80's that drifted out from Sylvan Beach due to open water and east winds.  Free helicopter ride, but he lost all of his gear.  The State Police weren't very happy either.  :-[

If you go, play it safe and use your head!

Good luck!!!

Well ... it all worked out ... at least the ice part.

Hit the ice at 6AM .....   7 inches thick everywhere... 6 good and an inch of crap on top.

There were wheelers everywhere.

I ended up with 4 perch and lost a waldo right at the hole ...  i almost grabbed the thing before it took off ....   had one other waldo hit seconds before the one i lost.

Glad it all worked out for ya!  There a pain to get through the hole, I always reach down and grab them.
