Knight TK2000 12ga Muzzleloader Qustion
« on: Mar 03, 2011, 07:12:35 PM »
I just purchased one of these guns and want to know if anyone who has one knows about shooting steel or another nontoxic shot. The guys at knight said no steel, but at the same time said guys were shooting "heavi Shot" with no problems. Everything Ive seen online said that heavi shot should only be fired through steel shot approved guns. All I really wana know is if Bismuth would be safe to shoot through the gun as the guys at knight arent giving me a very clear answer. Oh and my TK2000 is the new one withe the extra full "jug chocke"! Any info would be great!

my father and i  hunted w tk2000's for quite a few yrs. and have only used the knight chilled lead shot in 5 and 6. honestly they were more than impressive on paper but we hav wounded more birds than we hav killed w them. most misses were between 30+40yd. any birds we hav killed wer under 30. i lost confidence in mine and never use it any more. it was a novel idea and we were both excited about the concept but since going back to my ol faithful rem 11-87 i hav yet to lose 1.

we hav come to the conclusion that the 2oz shot cups r just too heavy of a load for the gun to handle. it loses too much energy at that critical 30-40yd mark. if we upped powder grains to 125 it smaked the piss out of us and blew out the patterrn. once the weather breaks wer gonna try 1 3\4 oz loads w 90 + 100 gr  n c if that holds a consistant pattern while retaining downrange energy. if u come across a magic combination plz let me know.
and id like to know what u unearth w the hevi-shot question as mayb that would also solve some of r issues

I missed something, what are you hunting with it? If it's for turkeys I'd go down to #4's, but why not use lead. For geese I've always used BBB's (BB's if I can't find them) and it seems to knock them right down the few times I managed to hit one. And if you're using a carrier the steel shouldn't be touching the barrel any way so the type of shot shouldn't matter.

yea its for turks. n i think its about the constriction at the tightest part of the choke. lead will deform and kind of mold its shape when compressed where steel is so hard it wont deform and could possibly cause a blowout. yea gonna pik up some fours 2 try also.

I've knocked them down with Remington express turkey loads, No.4 shot. I use a run of the mill Remington extra full choke, or my undertaker.

I shot both of mine with Winchester #5's, but 2oz of them come out of the shoulder cannon at 1300fps. I've patterned it out to 60-70yds with some loads, but what's the sport in that  ;D.

win supreme xx #5 3"  is what iv been using in my rem for years w a rem turkeyfull choke. if one gets away when using that combo its all my fault and cannot blame the gun.  ;)
dad still hunts w his tk2000 but i cant bring myself 2 hunt w a tool i dont have total confidence in.

My 870 is 3 1/2" capable, but it shoots a 2 3/4" magnum express the best. Tried a number of loads from that to a 3 1/2"  No. 6 & 4 and the smaller one out performed. I have a 1' pattern out over 50 yards. Sometimes the higher the pressures the worse a gun will shoot. We are scaling my .270 back from the Hot loads a friend made for me. they shoot fine, but just don't perform on game like I would like.

They don't make a turkey load smaller than 3.5" for the 10ga, but the 2.75" seem to work real well out of the CZ auto that Heather carries. They have a better group than the 3" does, much more consistent. That's all with the Winchester shells.

I have a Mossberg Grandslam turkey gun(won at a gun raffle) and the 2 3/4 pattern better than the 3's.

My 835 patterns much better with Wichester Super X 5's in 3.5" than the 3"; especially at 40+ yds. Don't use it much, though.

I bought it for Turkey and waterfowl hunting! The question is can I shoot Bismuth through the gun for Waterfowl?? Knight said that guys were shooting "heavi shot" (which is a non-toxic shot) with no problems but at the same time said no steel shot! But online it saids not to shoot heavi shot through guns that arent rated for steel! I just wana know if I can safely shoot steel or some other non-toxic shot through the gun with out hurting it!
