Nah, my old man had a very successful paving and excavation business for 25 years. He got a wicked sweet job offer to run a hot top plant so he took it and sold all his equipment. He plowed and salted all winter but now keeps it for doing just the big compound at the farm. Me, I do hardwood and tile work, finish work, some commercial fishing and sell carbonated soft drinks…

A nice local buck shot in the Machias area dressed 249 lbs
-
Great bucks...
-
Did anyone else see that Quigleys in Fort Kent had a family (2 brothers and 1 of their wives) shoot 3 bucks within 3 days. They weighted in at 247, 233, and 205 for at total of 685lbs! The 247 was an 8pt and the other two were 10pts. The 233lber and 205lber both were shot on the same day and actually the 205lber was shot while getting the other one out of the woods. Quite the story. You can see the pictures on Quigleys Outdoors facebook page, but I find it hard to believe that it wouldn't have made the paper by now.
-
I didn't hear anything about it. but I would love to see the pics of these deer!

Dad's deer from Monday Morning. Spikehorn with 4.5" spikes. The deer walked right up to him and he shot it at 8 yards. He passed on a bigger buck the first week (4pt) but said that he just couldn't let this one walk. Something about shooting them on the snow ;D He didn't weigh it but guessed that it was between 115-120lbs

good looking bucks boys! i passed on another small buck tonight. 7pt. quit work at 200. setting by 300and he came in at 3309, left and come back 15 minutes later. was w/ a doe. not harrassing her but not letting her leave him either. too small too soon still.
btw, do any of you boys tape your deer??? i carry one in each hunting coat. its accurate to 5lbs +/-. my father and i have done it for years and years and it has never been more then a few lbs either way. kind of a cool thing to do plus i know ahead of time what my deer is gonna weigh :P
-
Nice deer everyone. I had to look up taping weight, never heard of it before. Looks interesting, is this a similar scale to the one you use?
http://www.uafg.org/deer_weight_tape.html (http://www.uafg.org/deer_weight_tape.html)
-
didnt look at the link but in the north east the formula we use is ( inches x 6.5 - 120 ) i can post a pic of one of my tapes if you like
-

Is that to total length (nose to hoof) or just the length of the deer's core?

Finally a math formula worth remembering ;D

8 FEET not yards.
-
you wrap the tape around their chest just behind the front legs. its the same thing as girthing a beef creature.
-
Last tag of the year used up this afternoon. Saw a couple of nice bucks this afternoon, they were moving well. This one came in at 20 after 4 and stopped long enough for a good shot. Piled up 30 yards from stand.

-
nice deer everyone!
havnt been on in a while and figured id share some pics as well!
I only had time to hunt expanded one evening this year because of a good september/october tuna bite. The offshore blow picked up one day by lunch and decided to call it a day and go sit in a stand and it was definitely the right choice that afternoon. I ended up shooting a 135lb doe at 34 yards at about 615 but decided to stay in my stand and im glad i did because at about 645 i shot a nice little 6 point at 7 yards! i would have normally passed the 6 but because of coolness of the hunt i decided to take him!

This next one is a 175 8pt i shot the first thursday of rifle season. this was also a crazy hunt! i didnt get into the woods until around 4 that day so i opted to sit on the ground rather then deal with the climber. i was sitting for about 30 minutes when i heard some crashing behind me and after a few seconds i knew it was a buck chasing a doe. next thing i know two does pop up over this little knoll about 20 yards away from me with their tongues dragging and hauling ass. they actually split me and the tree i was leaning against, one went 5 feet on one side of the tree and the other went 5 feet to the other side. then came the buck grunting and running just as hard i barely had enough time to get my scope on him but luckily i did and i dropped him at 15 feet! yup feet not yards! i called my dad and informed him i was out of maine tags for the season and as i was on the phone with him i heard another deer coming and it ended up being another doe being chased by a buck. the doe again ran by at about 10 yards and then the 4 pt chasing stopped 3 yards away from me and had no idea i was there for about 5 minutes!
this next deer isnt from maine but i shot him this past wednesday on public land in Ohio with my bow! my dad shot a buck the night before just before dark and decided to let it lay until the next morning. the other three of us decided to sit in stands until 9 while my dad went in at first light to track his because it was our final morning there before heading home. well when 9 came around i had to call on the radio and tell the other guys that i was going to sit a little longer because i had small bucks chasing does all around me. one of the small 6 points started working away from me but then started to act funny so i knew something was up and thats when this guy stepped out of the thick stuff! He knew something was up from the get go and was being pretty cautious so i knew i didnt have much time for a shot. he ended up stepping into a shooting lane at 51 yards and i let the death stick fly! and boy did it hit its mark, he ran less then 20 yards then walked another 10 or so and i watched him wobble and fall over! even though i missed a pope and young 8 the morning before because of a branch i am more then happy with this buck that i took on the final morning 20 minutes after i was suppose to be out of the stand!!
now its time to go by my NH tag!

Note Wolley's secret weapon, and no it's not the gun, or the gunt call, or even the no shave November beard, but the secret actually lies in the marker camo lines on the hat, helps blend the orange a little.

Suttle......and it's workin for him ;D ;D

Pops took this the other day. 125# 3 pointer. He walked in the woods about 30 yards and the deer started towards him. He took the first shot at about 50 yards, clipped the top of the lung and piece of the liver. Took the second shot at about 10 feet, shot from the hip and took out a leg. It piled up about 20 yards from the truck.
