my dad's marlin original goose gun
« on: Apr 01, 2011, 08:59:54 PM »
i made a commitment to kill a bird with my fathers first turkey gun.it is a marlin "the original" goose gun model 55.i put a box of shells through it and i feel ready to use it.i really like the remington 870 with the red dot but its more nostalgic to use this gun.i have also heard that if i miss with it i will go back to the 870.mark my words i will get one with this gun!

35 or 36 inch barrel that is what the golf club is for .....to try to show how long that barrel is.

Nice looking gun, won't be fun to carry through the brush. What does it have for a choke? You can kill a turkey with any shotgun, just need to find the effective range for that particular gun.

That thing is taller than ramrod. Hope you flop one with it.

LOL, and if you come to a stream you can pole vault it... ;D
Looks a lot like my Mossy bolt action, with an adjustable choke. Except the barrel is 2' longer... ;D

it doesnt have a choke in it.my dad said the longer barrel is to achieve more of a full choke effect.i feel comfortable at 30 to 35 yards with it.the pattern was nice but im used to pump action.i wonder how many times i will pump it before i realize its the bolt action lol.i love the pole vault comment upstate im lmao as i type  ;D

I have the same one except for some modifications...marlin goose gun was brought in to a little known gunsmith in 1978 who ran an ad in the local paper claiming he will transform the goose gun into a turkey gun...barrel was cut to 26", new custom sights put on, gun was completely camoflauged, and a 12" forcing cone was installed..his name?? Mark Bansner...who went on to become one the finest custom riflemakers of our time! That gun still provides a super dense pattern at 50 yards!
If its BROWN...Its DOWN!!!      If it FLYS...It DIES!!!

i didnt try the pattern at 50 though i may shoot it again to see what she does.i have heard of a guy knocking a pumkin off a 5 gallon pail at 60 or 70 yards with it.although maybe fun to try on targets im sure my max limit would be 40.but prefer colser.im just not too sure of the knock down power at 50 and up ya know.those birds are tough!

Can't wait to see you flop one with it. I need to get out and sling a few arrows before season too. I want to get one with the bow.
