Only my second deer (later in life hobby) and I am very happy with the whole day!! I hunted all day yesterday on the opener and passed on a small doe early in the AM and again on the afternoon hunt.  Kicked myself all night, promised myself if it's brown it's down for today. No deer sighted on the morning hunt and my afternoon started out later than I would have liked.  Finally ready to go out at 3 pm and I jammed my gun loading it.  Head back to the house and take out trigger assembly, unjam the gun, get dressed again and finally get seated at 3:45.  Texted my buddy to let him know I was finally out and I look up and see a doe 60 yads away.  Put AWAY the phone!
At 4:15 another doe walks out and I put the scope on her.  She was about 120 yards away and kept looking back behind her.  I figure the shot is too far away for me and decide to wait it out and see if she will come in closer.  I look over to the right and see a buck trotting in towards her, but he is on a closer bee line to me than her.  I have my scope on him and was praying he would stop for just a second.  He finally does and I pull the trigger, he gives a big mule kick and runs off and over a wire fence into the woods. The doe decides to leave after about 15 seconds.
I knew not to get down right away but the only light I had was the little ones on my hat.  I call my buddy and he said he would be right over.  I wait a half an hour and go out into the field to see if I could find any blood where I shot him.  I look in the fading light for amost 45 minutes when I finally find some small drops near the fence.  I marked it with my bandana and wait for my friend to come with some good flashlights.  When he shows up we see more and more drops and find him 10 minutes later 30 yards from the fence and 150 yards from where I shot him.
It was an awesome afternoon and I am very thankful to have had a clean successful hunt!  Looking forward to getting a skull mount done on him.
Boom, Done!
